Hasoon2000's Toolkit is by far the easiest and most hassle free way to unlock and root the global version of the HTC One X. 

Like all the work posted here, The SuperUser's Guide has received permission from the developer, Hasoon2000, to post this method

Instructions

  1. Download Hasoon2000's Toolkit zip file
    1. Download Link 
  2. Unzip the toolkit to your C:\ drive
    1. file path "C:\One_X_All-In-One_Kit_V1.0"
  3. Double click the One X.exe file to run the program
  4. On the HTC One X, Turn USB Debugging on
    1. Go to Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging
  5. Connect HTC One X to the computer
    1. If it is a desktop PC use a USB port in back
  6. Select 1. Install HTC Drivers & click Go
    1. Follow any prompts to complete installing the drivers
  7. Select 2. Register at HTCDev & click Go
    1. Fill out the registration form
    2. Make sure to stay logged into the website when completed
  8. Select 3. Get Token ID & click Go
    1. Copy token ID
      1. Right click inside command prompt
      2. Select Mark
      3. Highlight entire token ID
      4. Right click to copy
    2. Close command prompt
  9. Select 4. Submit Token ID & click GO
    1. Paste token in the box on the web page & click submit
    2. You will receive an email with the unlock code
    3. Download the unlock code from the email
    4. Place the file in the "C:\One_X_All-In-One_Kit_V1.0\Data" folder
  10. Select 5. Unlock Bootloader & click Go
    1. Phone will reboot into fastboot
    2. On the phone select yes by pressing the power button
    3. Wait for phone to boot back up
    4. Go through the phone setup process
  11. Once complete verify that the phone is connected to the computer & USB debugging is on
  12. In the toolkit select CWM 5.8.2.7 Touch & click Flash Recovery
    1. Follow any prompts
  13. Verify phone is booted up, connected to PC, and USB debugging is on
  14. Select Perm Root (GB/ICS) & click Run
    1. Wait until the phone is in recovery and then press a button. The files will be pushed to the phone.
  15. Reboot
  16. Install ROM Manager and make a backup of your stock ROM
    1. Rom Manager: Play Store Link
    2. Launch ROM Manager
    3. Select “Flash ClockworkMod Recovery”
    4. Confirm Phone Model
    5. Select “Backup Current ROM”
    6. Rename backup (example: “Stock 4.0.4”)
    7. Select “OK”
  17. Finished!

Use Hasoon2000's Toolkit to 

  • Unlock Bootloader
  • Root your phone
  • Install Custom Recoveries
  • Restore phone to Stock
  • Flash the stock kernel
